Cabbage Patch Kids
Cabbage Patch Kids was a doll created by an art student named Xavier Roberts in 1978, and originally called "Little People". By 1982, a children's story book had been written with a complete back story, and later that same year Coleco began mass producing the dolls. The dolls had plastic heads and cloth bodies, and were made by Coleco until 1989. Post 1989, other companies, such as Hasbro and Mattel, continued making the lines.
It is worth noting that at the height of its popularity in the early 1980's, store shelves would clear out quick during the Christmas season. In many cases, grown women would fight each other in the department store to get the last one, or the last one of a rare release.
