Joe dates back to the 1940's.  Over the years, many shows have been produced featuring Joe and the gang.  In the 80's, a cartoon aired from 1985 to 1986, and some of you will remember G. I. Joe:  The Movie from 1986.  The term "G. I. Joe" was the name given to an elite mixture of military experts whose main goal was battling the evil terrorist group "Cobra."  Season 1 and 2 are available on DVD.
