The Best of Randy Vanwarmer   Randy Vanwarmer The Best Of

Randall Van Wormer, aka Randy VanWarmer, was an American musician from Colorado.  Although he grew up on Colorado, his mother moved him to England a few years after his father died.  He played in South England music clubs as a teenager, and after he was visited by his American girlfriend, he managed to muster up some song-writing magic, which is where his most recognized (and only major hit) song came from.

After years of musical obscurity, a small label in New York released his single "Gotta Get Out of Here", which was on his debut album Warmer.  Although this song was not a great success, the B side of the single release featured the song "Just When I Need You Most", which was played by a DJ who had a hunch.  The song made it into the top 10.  The label would not allow VanWarmer to tour in the USA, which proved to be a huge mistake.

VanWarmer released four albums in the 1980's, but do in part from his turn from his 1979 pop sound, these albums were not nearly as successful.  It is interesting to note that two of his songs, "It Never Hurst to Hurt Sometimes" and "I'm in a Hurry (And Don't Know Why)", became huge hits for the country bands the Oak Ridge Boys and Alabama respectively.

VanWarmer continued to produce well past the 1980's, although he was never able to reproduce his earlier success.  VanWarmer died from cancer in 2007.  The Randy VanWarmer Discography is as follows:

  • 1979: Warmer

JUST WHEN I NEED YOU MOST:
[chorus] But I miss you more than I, Missed you before and now, Where I'll find comfort, God knows, 'Cause you left me, Just when I needed you most, (Left me, just when I needed you most)  [etc]
