GREATEST HITS
The Best of The Del Fuegos Slash Years

Boston born The Del Fuegos (The Flames in Spanish) started way back in 1980 by brothers Warren and Dan Zanes.  They were recognized and praised for the no-frills approach to music, which garnered them an early East Coast tour run.  In 1984, whilst recording their first album under a local label, Slash Records picked them up and their first album, The Longest Day, was released in 1984.

In 1985, The Del Fuegos followed up their initial effor with Boston, Mass Although the album was not a huge hit, the band did have moderate success on radio and MTV with the songs "Don't Run Wild" and "I Still Want You" from this album.  The band increased its musical range on 1987's Stand Up, which appeared to have the opposite effect on their fan base.  Even though they went on tour with Tom Petty to support the album, which also featured Petty as a guest vocalist, things did not go well.  By 1989, Warren Zanes had left the band, and brother Dan hired some replacements and Smoking in the Fields was released in 1989.  Although the album received better reviews than its predecessor, it was an overall commercial failure.

After the permanent breakup of the band, members went on to solo projects.  In 2011, the band played together at a club in Boston for the first time in 21 years, and a new tour and new album subsequently followed.  At the time of this writing, The Del Fuegos Discography was as follows:

  • 1984: The Longest Day
  • 1985: Boston, Mass.
  • 1985: Spin Radio Concert Live
  • 1987: Stand Up
  • 1989: Smoking in the Fields
  • 2001: Best of The Del Fuegos: The Slash Years
  • 2012: Silver Star
  • 1987

    I STILL WANT YOU:
[starts] Seasons change and lessons get learned, It's been awhile, but my heart burns, It said, I still want you
[chorus] I tried so hard just to fill your cup, I tried so hard just to fill it up, But you only drift away, you drift away [etc]
