GREATEST HITS
Best of Danny Wilson

Danny Wilson was a Scottish group, formed in Dundee, Scotland by Gary Clark and Ged Grimes, a couple of high school band mates.  Initially, the two moved to London and played in a couple of bands together.  After little success, they moved back to Scotland and formed the band Spencer Tracy, with Gary's brother Kit, and they signed to Virgin Records in 1986.

It was after the development of the initial album that the estate of Spencer Tracy forced the group to change their name, so they chose Danny Wilson after the 1952 Frank Sinatra film Meet Danny Wilson.  The band's initial release, Meet Danny Wilson, hit shelves in 1987.  Although the single "Mary's Prayer" did not initially prove a success in the UK, it did peak at no. 26 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart in the USA.  A release of the song propelled it to no. 3 on the UK Singles Chart in 1988.  Bebop Moptop was the follow up release in 1989, and it featured the hit song "The Second Summer of Love".

By 1991, tensions were on the rise in the band, and the split was amicable.  As former members of Danny Wilson went on to solo projects, old band mates often contributed.  The Danny Wilson Discography is as follows:

  • 1987: Meet Danny Wilson
  • 1988: Bebop Moptop
  • 1991: Sweet Danny Wilson/Three-In-A-Bed Romp
  • 1995: Best of Danny Wilson

    MARY'S PRAYER:
[starts] Everything is wonderful, Being here is heavenly, Every single day, she says, Everything is free
[chorus] So if I say save me save me, Be the light in my eyes, And if I say ten Hail Mary's, Leave a light on heaven for me [etc]
