Warrant does not seem to receive the amount of recognition they
deserved. Warrant was formed back in 1984 by guitarist
Erik Turner in California. In the early days, Warrant was a hard working
band, opening for signed groups like Stryper, Black N Blue, Ted Nugent,
and Hurricane. During a split in the band, Jani Lane was brought
in as vocalist for Warrant, and he soon became the major song writer for
the band.
In 1987, Warrant was signed to a record deal by Columbia
Records, and rumor has it that Jani Lane purchased a new Corvette with
this advance which he then promptly crashed. Prior to this, they
even contributed to the soundtrack of the movie Bill and Ted's
Excellent Adventure. In early 1989, Warrant's debut album was
released
Dirty Rotten Filthy Stinking Rich.
This album charted at number 10 on the Billboard Top 200. Many of
you will remember the hit songs "Heaven", "Some Times She Cries", "Down
Boys", and "Big Talk" from this album. Warrant received heavy
rotation on MTV and toured with the likes of Kingdom Come, Queensryche,
Poison, Cinderella, and Motley Crue.
Warrant followed their debut release in 1990 with the
successful,
Cherry Pie, which featured the title song, "Uncle Tom's Cabin",
and "I Saw Red". This album charted at number 7 on the Billboard
Top 200. Many of you will remember the beautiful actress Bobbie
Brown who started in the Cherry Pie video (she also ended up marrying
Jani Lane).
The bands 1992 album, Dog Eat Dog, was not as popular, but still
charted and was highly acclaimed.
Post 1992, Jani Lane was an on again off again member of
the band. In the 1990's, Warrant took a more grunge direction as
they continued releasing new material. Not a bad idea if you want
to stay in business, but not the metal sound we happen to love at
ilovethe80s.com. Lane released a solo album in 2002 called Back
Down to One, which in many ways was a return to the pop metal of the
80's. In 2011, Lane died of alcohol poisoning. At the time
of this writing, the Warrant Discography was as follows:1989: Dirty Rotten Filthy Stinking Rich
