Saxon has been around a
long time. Saxon formed back in 1976 in Yorkshire
(England) as one of the many New Wave of British Heavy Metal bands.
Saxon was one of Europe's biggest metal acts, with 8 UK top 40 albums,
including 4 in the top 10, and numerous top 20 singles between 1980 and
1987.
In the early days, the band's name was "Son of a Bitch",
which obviously did not go over real well label execs, so Saxon was chosen instead.
In their early days (debut release),
Saxon brought us songs like "747 Strangers in the Night" and "Wheels of
Steel". By 1983, Power & the Glory had made Saxon a headlining act, and successful US tours with opener such as Accept,
Motley Crue, and Krokus followed.
By 1985, Saxon had joined the same US bandwagon that many early
80's metal bands found themselves on, and began releasing more polished material
at the behest of their label.
Although this new sound perplexed die hard Saxon fans at the time, these
mid 1980's Saxon releases have been recognized as solid in hindsight. As the years went
on, and Saxon changed labels, they also changed their sound, becoming
progressively harder and harder with each subsequent decade. At the time of this writing, Saxon was still
active in both touring the world and producing new material, a fact that
not many 80's acts can claim. The Saxon Discography is as follows:1979: Saxon
