There came a point when hair metal became speed metal, and bands like Metallica, Megadeth,
and Anthrax began appealing to a newer audience of mosh-pit nut bags.
The New York band, Anthrax, was formed in 1981, and is on the short list
of most recognizable 80's thrash metal bands (and the first to sign with
a major record label in 1985). The band purposely named themselves
after the disease, simply due to the fact that it sounded menacing.
Over the years, Anthrax has had a
mixed bag of members and vocalists, the only consistent members being
Scott Ian and Charlie Benante. By 1986, Anthrax began to go
against the grain of traditional metal fatigues, by dressing in biker
shorts and singing about Stephen King novels, comic book figures, and
touring with the colorful band Living Colour.
Over the years, and well into the
post 2010, Anthrax reunited with various band members as they toured the
world. At the time of this writing, the Anthrax Discography was as
follows:1984: Fistful of Metal
1985: Spreading the Disease
1987: Among the Living
1988: State of Euphoria
1990: Persistence of Time
1993: Sound of White Noise
1995: stomp 442
1998: Volume 8: The Threat is Real
2003: We've Come for You All
2011: Worship Music |
