DOUBLE FEATURE
The Never Ending Story 1 and 2 in this set!

The NeverEnding Story, released in 1984, was a fantasy sci-fi drama.  The movie was based on a 1979 novel by Michael Ende.  The movie scored well with critics, and although it was the most expensive film to have been produced outside of the USA and the USSR, it still made a very nice profit.  The film was successful enough to warrant two sequels:  The NeverEnding Story II: The Next Chapter was released in 1990, and The NeverEnding Story III: Escape from Fantasia, was released in 1994.

In this movie, young Bastian Bux, who has recently lost his mother and is relatively friendless, spends his days reading books.  One day on the way to school, he hides in a bookstore to escape the torment of some neighborhood bullies, and he borrows a magical book that he takes to school and reads.  The book was about the world of Fantasia, where a force called “The Nothing” threatened its very existence.  In Fantasia, the Empress has asked a young warrior, Arteyu, to find out how to stop the Nothing.  The Nothing, on the other hand, summons an evil wolf to kill Arteyu.  As the trek becomes difficult, Atreyu is nearly lost, but he is rescued by a luckdragon named Falkor.

Come to find out, the only way to stop the nothing was to have a human child give the Princess a new name.  It just so happened that the book was magical, and the characters are able to communicate with each other through the story, much like as if through a window.  In the end, Bastian is able to give the Princess the name of “Moonchild”, which was his mother’s name, and the Nothing is stopped though his imagination.
