Before VHS, Sony developed the Betamax VCR.  There are many reasons why Betamax bit the dust, such as poor marketing and a shorter tape recording time versus the VHS VCR.  This top loading, push button model was one of the earliest versions of the Betamax.  One to check one out?  Follow the picture link above.
