The NEC Turbografx 16
video game system made its debut in
Japan around 1987, but didn't make it to the states until a few
years later. This system was truly cutting edge, with
16-bit graphics and very small video game cartridges (there was even
an add-on that played CD based video games). Poor marketing kept
this system mostly unknown. Ebay has a ton of
Trubografx-16 stuff; Amazon has some as well.
