ROAD RUNNER (1985)

Road Runner Arcade Game

Road Runner was an arcade game released by Atari in 1985.  It was based on the popular Looney Tunes cartoon featuring Wile E. Coyote and the Road Runner.  In this game, the player controlled the Road Runner, who was constantly being pursued by Wile E. Coyote.  Wile E. Coyote not only flat out ran after the Road Runner, but he also used things like rockets, roller skates, pogo sticks, and other Acme items you would expect to see in the TV cartoon series.  The Road Runner not only had to avoid Wile E. Coyote, but also navigate mazes, eat birdseed, and watch out for other obstacles such as automobiles, while at the same time trying to lead Wile E. Coyote into a trap.

There was a 1977 arcade game by Midway called the Road Runner, but there was no connection.  This 1977 version was a shooter game where the play would blast roadrunners, buzzards, and other animals.  The 1985 version was developed for the Atari 2600, Commodore 64, NES, and a number of other systems.
